Dibrugarh, Assam : With the 2026 Assam Assembly elections on the horizon, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched an intensive strategy session to prepare for the electoral battle. The party’s two-day state-level meeting in Dibrugarh, attended by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and senior leaders, has focused on analyzing electoral dynamics and regional equations.
Addressing the media on Thursday, CM Sarma said the meeting had been highly productive, with in-depth discussions on organizational structure, potential candidates, and constituency-specific strategies. “We have finalized our election strategy and are ready to face the challenges ahead,” he added.
However, retaining power will not be easy for the BJP this time. A growing anti-incumbency wave and rising regional discontent are making the political terrain more competitive. Analysts say the election will serve as a referendum on continuity versus change, with the BJP having to defend its five-year record while the opposition seeks to capitalize on public dissatisfaction.

Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi is emerging as a prominent challenger, especially among youth and economically discontented voters. Active participation of regional parties and potential alliances could further complicate the electoral arithmetic. BJP state president Dilip Saikia is expected to brief the press on the decisions of the second day of the meet later today.
